Elementary STEAM Teacher (Art Engineering Innovation Specialist)
Position Summary The Elementary STEAM Teacher designs and delivers
an innovative STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and
Math) program that integrates artistic creativity with engineering
and problem-solving. This position provides students with hands-on
learning experiences that foster creativity, design thinking,
collaboration, and real-world problem solving. The STEAM program
balances artistic expression with engineering design , ensuring
students complete at least one significant art-based project each
quarter while engaging in standards-aligned STEM and engineering
challenges throughout the year . This teacher works collaboratively
with classroom teachers to connect projects to grade-level learning
and supports the school’s mission of developing creative,
bilingual, and innovative problem solvers. Essential
Responsibilities STEAM Instruction Teach weekly STEAM classes to
elementary students (K–5). Implement hands-on engineering and STEM
projects aligned with grade-level science and math standards.
Integrate design thinking and the engineering design process (ask,
imagine, plan, create, improve). Develop lessons that blend
creativity, experimentation, and real-world problem solving . Art
Integration Design and teach at least one major art project per
quarter . Teach foundational art skills such as: drawing color
theory sculpture mixed media design Connect art to engineering
through projects such as: kinetic sculptures architectural models
product design environmental art maker projects Project-Based
Learning Facilitate inquiry-driven, project-based learning
experiences where students: design solutions build prototypes test
ideas iterate on designs Guide students through collaborative
projects and reflection on the design process. Engineering & STEM
Experiences Students may engage in projects such as: building
bridges and structures designing simple machines robotics and
coding basics environmental engineering challenges renewable energy
experiments maker-space design challenges Collaboration Partner
with grade-level teachers to connect STEAM projects to classroom
content. Support interdisciplinary learning across science, math,
literacy, and social studies. Collaborate with other specials
teachers and school leadership to build a cohesive program. STEAM
Space & Materials Maintain and organize STEAM classroom materials
and tools. Manage equipment such as: maker materials art supplies
engineering kits robotics tools Ensure safe use of tools and
materials. Student Engagement Foster curiosity, creativity, and
perseverance. Support students in developing problem-solving,
collaboration, and innovation skills . Encourage risk-taking,
iteration, and learning from mistakes.
