Denver Public Works (DPW) delivers services that help to define and improve the quality of life in Denver. DPW is responsible for road maintenance and repair; residential trash, recycling and compost collection; design and construction of streets, bridges, public buildings, and storm and sanitary sewers; transportation and parking services; oversight and regulation of use of the public right-of-way; and implementation of the Public Works Environmental Management System (EMS). For more information, please visit the DPW website and video at: http://www.denvergov.org/dpw https://vimeo.com/263427065 The Construction Team within Wastewater Infrastructure Project Management is comprised of 23 to 26 highly specialized staff members with the responsibility of the construction supervision, management, review, inspection, provision of subject matter expertise and various related tasks to ensure the successful implementation of approximately $120M in active and upcoming complex Heavy Civil Projects for the Department of Public Works on an annual basis. The Construction Team has a job opportunity for a full-time, unlimited Project Manager II. This position will be responsible for performing advanced professional level project management work on complex, multifaceted projects from inception to completion including the management and coordination of projects that have city-wide impact and requiring a global, strategic understanding of city agencies and city policies, standards, and systems. The position requires a highly specialized and strategic skill set in wastewater related construction Project management including: Expert knowledge/understanding of City contract language, general conditions, and special conditions, etc. Ability to collaborate, negotiate, interpret/manage critical path schedules and solve various complex related construction problems rapidly using expert knowledge and available resources Use of expertise to continuously improve and develop processes, standards, measurement and payments, bid items, specifications, etc. to support the management goals and ongoing successful implementation of multifaceted capital improvement projects Some additional responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: Supervision of two project inspectors Establishing daily work plans for inspection staff Disciplinary matters for all direct reports Providing coaching and mentoring to peers; collaborating and coordinating with numerous outside stakeholders Creating and approving monthly pay applications, change orders, invoices, and other contract documents Review project design(s) and schematics for quality, technical competence, and code and standards compliance, monitor the progress and quality of a project, and resolve problems and project barriers by identifying strategies and approaches to overcome barriers. Facilitating regular progress meetings with staff, project teams and one on one meetings with direct reports to facilitate investment in department staff, etc. While the full pay range of this Job Classification is $82,752.00 - $132,403.00, our target hiring salary for this position is between $82,752.00 - $99,000.00, depending on education, experience and qualifications. About You The ideal candidate will have: A degree in Construction Management A strong background and understanding of construction management, implementation and techniques for successful completion of complex heavy civil projects, with additional expertise in underground infrastructure and systems Extensive work experience directly with construction contractors in a project decision-making role, as well as skills in construction problem solving and conflict resolution are preferred Demonstrated experience working with internal and external stakeholders with heavy civil construction and major projects We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a related field. Experience: Three (3) years of professional project management experience in the related occupational group including planning, managing, and scheduling projects and preparing and reviewing contract documents. License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment. Education/Experience Equivalency: One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.
