Assistance programs include food, cash and medical benefits, child care, child support, employment first, veterans' services and general assistance for eligible Denver residents. Protection & Prevention services are provided via child, youth and adult protection, along with community-focused programming, including in-home services, designed to strengthen families and prevent future occurrences of abuse or neglect. Protection & Prevention Denver Human Services works to protect Denver's children, youth, adults, and elders by providing services and advocacy while promoting family stability, respecting diversity, and working to create and strengthen connections to community resources. We work to prevent abuse by providing education, resources, and support to parents, families, and community organizations. About Our Job The Child Support Services (CSS) Division is currently seeking highly skilled applicants for the position of Lead Child Support Technician to work with our dynamic Specialized Enforcement unit.

Specialized Enforcement: The Specialized Enforcement unit is a hybrid team that is responsible for all foster care referrals. The unit will process each referral from Intake through Establishment and Enforcement, along with required modifications. The unit also houses traditional enforcement caseloads. Success in this position requires the ability to utilize soft skills for communication and collaboration with a wide range of individuals. CSS partners with federal, state, tribal, and local governments and others to promote parental responsibility so that children receive support from both parents, even when they live in separate households. Nationally, the child support program is one of the largest income-support programs for families, contributing money to family budgets to help pay for the basics: shelter, food, child care, transportation, and school clothes. Child support makes a big difference to children. We strive to provide family centered services and are incorporating innovative strategies that improve the reliability of child support payments. We recognize that children benefit from positive, ongoing relationships with both parents. The Lead Child Support Technician:

  • Provides on-the-job training, mentors new and tenured employees. Collaborates with the training unit on course content, materials and case reviews.
  • Monitors work activity on caseloads to ensure that cases are clearly and thoroughly documented. Reviews and analyzes case records and reports for completeness, accuracy and timeliness. Identifies compliance and production problems.
  • Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage.
  • Identifies and evaluates relevant case issues; researches and reviews information to determine appropriate legal actions; participates in the discovery process; interviews and negotiates with parents, prepares legal actions and corresponding documents; may be asked to provide court testimony.
  • Provides work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments.
  • Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
  • Resolves problems encountered during daily operations and determines appropriate solutions. Acts as a mediator when problems occur between clients and employees.
  • Reviews unit procedures, assist in the development or revision of needed procedures. Recommends and implements process improvements.
  • Contributes to the development of the performance enhancement plan, documents performance, provides performance feedback, and furnishes information for the formal performance evaluation.
  • Responds orally to informal grievances and relays information to the supervisor.
  • Documents situations which may be cause for disciplinary action and provides this information to the supervisor.
  • Performs technical work by following an administrative or judicial process to provide services to clients involving establishment, enforcement and/or modification of child support obligations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Any one position may not include all of the duties listed. However, the allocation of positions will be determined by the amount of time spent in performing the essential duties listed above. Authorized Hiring Range: $21.54 - $24.02 About You Our ideal candidate will have:
    • Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Public Administration, Psychology, English, Communications, Business or a related field.
    • Experience with Colorado's Automated Child Support Enforcement System (ACSES).
    • Certification in LEAN principles (Black Belt equivalency).
    • Fluency in Spanish (speaking, reading and writing). Experience Requirement:Three (3) years of experience performing child support initiation, enforcement, collections, investigations, case management or a related field. Education/Experience Equivalency:Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.

      Licensure and/or Certification:Some positions require possession of a valid Colorado Class "R" Driver's License at time of application. About Everything Else Classification Title : The official job classification title is Lead Child Support Technician. Hiring Range : $21.54-24.02 Hourly (Commensurate with experience) Assessments/Testing : This position does not require testing. Candidates must pass a criminal background check and other verifications required for the position which may include, but are not limited to, employment and/or education verification, motor vehicle record check, drug test, and/or physical.
