Job Description:

This is a full-time position as a construction manager. The construction manager for the Design, Construction, & Maintenance Program, is responsible for various maintenance functions of the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District (UDFCD). This includes being responsible for certain technical and professional services in the field and office regarding facilities design, construction, inspections, environmental compliance, and contract management. The construction manager also coordinates activities of consulting engineers, inspectors, contractors, and coordinates work with local agencies.Duties and Responsibilities:Under guidance from the Project Manager, manages the stream management program with responsibilities that include:

• Management of Contract Selection Process
• Supervision of Stream Management Contractors
• Preparation of specifications and bid documents
• Development of quantities, cost estimates, and overall payment process
• Supervision of Field Inspector/Engineering Student Intern
• Project acceptance/close-outUnder guidance from the Project Manager, assists in the implementation of construction activities, with responsibilities that include:
  • Provides input on Contractor Selection Process
  • Supervision of Stream Management Contractors
  • Development of quantities, cost estimates, and overall payment process
  • Obtain all necessary permits
  • Ensures completion of endangered species surveys
  • Inspection and documentation of contractor work
  • Project acceptance/close-outOther duties
    • Provides input on designs and plans of the consulting engineers.
    • Documents maintenance projects including sketches, photos, and quantities, surveying, observation reports, and drafting performed either by others or personally.
    • Makes field inspections of contractor work as necessary.
    • Makes recommendations to the Project Manager regarding acceptability of construction projects.
    • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and with all project permits.
    • Works closely with the District's continuing activities and with other members of the staff, engineers, and local government representatives.
    • Develops and nurtures relationships with contractors and consultants.
    • Makes recommendations regarding improvements in drainage facilities.
    • Assists the Project Manager in the day-to-day supervision of student interns.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
      • Three years of college level course work in drafting, surveying, inspections, algebra, hydrology, trigonometry, engineering technology, and construction management.
      • Five years' experience in performing technical work and/or construction management with a consulting engineer, major contractor, governmental agency, or similar employer.
      • A fourth year of college level studies may be substituted for two years of experience.Key Competencies:
        • Sound working knowledge of engineering technology and terminology.
        • Knowledge of applicable mathematic functions and the ability to apply such knowledge.
        • Knowledge of engineering design and construction practices and the techniques of construction project management.
        • Computer experience in MS Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
        • Desirable to possess a basic knowledge of GIS software and its application.
        • Knowledge of natural vegetation and weed control practices.
        • Knowledge of material testing.
        • Ability to work well with and supervise others.Availability and Salary:
