**Posting Title** Water Power and Offshore Wind Characterization Data Analysis and Programming Specialist . **Location** CO - Boulder . **Position Type** Regular . **Hours Per Week** 40 . **Job Summary** The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation?s primary laboratory for research and development of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL has an immediate opening for one full-time data analysis and programming specialist. The candidate will be part of a multi-national laboratory testing team to develop real-time and post processing software that is IEC compliant. The candidate will be responsible for the planning, development, documentation, and deployment of software for quality assurance, processing, reduction, visualization, transmission, and achieving of data collected from laboratory and field testing of marine energy systems. The candidate must have highly proficient with LabVIEW/ Matlab/Python programming, time series analysis, data analysis, and app development. The candidate must have in-depth understanding of programming with real world experience in software design, build, implementation, and verification. The candidate will also need to travel where they will help install and verify the operation of measurement systems. Occasionally the candidate will spend some time on ships at sea. At NREL, safety is the highest priority and the successful candidate is expected to maintain safety training and adhere to NREL practices and policies. At sea experience and hands on experience configuring and using marine instrumentation is helpful, but not necessary. The data analysis and programming specialist will: Develop programs for quality assurance, processing, reduction, visualization, transmission, and achieving of data from laboratory and field testing in LabVIEW, Matlab, and Python. Develop smartphone and web apps to remotely control data acquisition systems and visualize data streams from test articles Work with clients to understand data processing needs and develop software solutions Assist in the setup, installation, operation, and recovery of data acquisition systems, sensors and instruments at remote locations for field and laboratory measurement of marine energy and offshore wind systems. Provide expert advice to commercial, academic, and government partners for data processing. Support the development and execution of projects in other wind and marine energy areas, including environmental monitoring, technology development, demonstration and deployment. Maintain all safety training necessary to meet NREL requirement for offshore and remote work. Experience Level + Advanced programing skills in Matlab, LabVIEW and Python for data quality assurance, processing, reduction, visualization, transmission, and achieving. + Smartphone and web app development. + In-depth knowledge and experience with time series analysis . **Required Education, Experience, and Skills** Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in relevant discipline. Or, Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or in relevant discipline, and 2 or more years of experience. Demonstrates broad understanding and wide application of engineering technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field. General knowledge of other related disciplines. Demonstrates leadership in one or more areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Very good writing, interpersonal and communication skills. . **Preferred Qualifications** + Minimum Qualifications + A PhD, Master's Degree and 3 or more years of experience or a bachelor?s degree with 5 or more years of experience in programming and data analysis and visualization + The candidate must have hands on experience with LabVIEW/ Matlab/Python programming, time series analysis, and app development. + Expert knowledge of Matlab and Python + Excellent time management skills with demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects. + Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. + Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a large dynamic team environment with evolving requirements and schedules. + Proficiency in Power Point and Excel and other relevant software packages. + Preferred Qualifications + Experience with customer relations to understand needs and develop value added solutions. + Experience performing experimental mechanical systems measurements, related data processing, and time series analysis using LabVIEW/MatLab/Python. + Experience developing smartphone and web apps. . **Submission Guidelines** Please note that in order to be considered an applicant for any position at NREL you must submit an application form for each position for which you believe you are qualified.
