Position Summary

In collaboration with MSU Denver President, Dr. Janine Davidson, the Institute for Public Service, and the Classroom to Career Hub we are pleased to offer MSU Denver students an opportunity to apply for selective spots in our Presidential Federal Internship Program. The internships offer a unique opportunity to work in multiple facets of public service in Washington, D.C.Internship opportunities will be identified through MSU Denver supporters and partnerships, and students selected will learn more about these opportunities as they progress in the interview process. Participation in public service-based experiential learning will provide students with the skills necessary to succeed in many career pathways and offer the opportunity to support the governmental process and/or the important work of community organizations.The summer program will ensure:

• Each student receives up to $6,000 in financial support during their 10-week internship, either through a combination of funds directly from the internship sponsor or MSU Denver;
  
  
• Round-trip airfare;
  
  
• A stipend for ground transportation (DC Metro Pass).
  
  
• Shared housing in Washington, D.C. for 10 weeks (double/triple occupancy rooms); including a stipend for living incidentals (bedding, towels, etc.);
  
  
• Academic credit for the internship (if applicable).

  Duties/Responsibilities
  
  Students will be required to participate in pre-internship orientation sessions, and presentations with MSU Denver Board Members and Trustees, and to be on-boarded as a student employee prior to departure. Students will have the opportunity to meet with MSU Denver senior leadership in preparation for their time in DC and will be supported by a public service program manager prior to their internship start, during the first weekend traveling and settling into Washington, DC, and periodically throughout their summer experience. MSU Denver staff will visit students and placements for a site visit within the 10-week placement to further build relationships and support in the overall public service internship experience.
  
  
  
  Each week of the internship will include 32 hours of on-the-job internship experience in a public service agency (government or nonprofit) and 8 hours reserved for completing MSU Denver-related assignments (events, requests for updates, email communication with the program manager and/or MSU Denver Marketing and Communication contact) or exploring specific aspects of Washington DC.
  
  
  
  Students will commit to being on time for work every day, representing MSU Denver professionally, and taking advantage of all that Washington, D.C. has to offer. They will share their experiences on the job and in the city with peers, donors, and potential interns - what they learned, saw, and experienced during their internship - during their 10 weeks in DC and upon their return to Denver.

• Current MSU Denver Full-time or Part-Time Student
  
  
• Eligible for Student Employment at MSU Denver
  
  
• Sophomore or Junior Standing at time of application (will not graduate prior to Dec 2023)

• Able to travel outside of Colorado
  
  
• Ability to travel for 10 weeks to Washington, DC between Mid-May and Mid-August 2023.

    MSU Denver offers temporary, non-benefit eligible employees sick leave. The sick leave is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed a maximum of 48 hours in a calendar year.
