Sterile Processing Tech Apprenticeship

UCHealth is partnering with Front Range Community College (FRCC)
to offer a 20 week paid Sterile Processing apprenticeship which
starts on 8/21 . Students who successfully complete the program are
eligible to transition to a permanent position on one of our
sterile processing teams. The program consists of 1 semester of
coursework that includes both didactic and hands-on simulation in a
fully functioning sterile processing department. As a UCHealth
employee, students are eligible to receive generous tuition support
and certification fee reimbursement to help offset the costs
associated with this program. As an apprentice you will learn how
to process surgical instruments used in an operating room setting
to comply with standards set by the International Association of
Healthcare Central Service Material Management organization

What does a Sterile Processing Tech do?
Sterile Processing Technicians (SPTs) are allied health
professionals responsible for the sterilization and assembly of the
equipment used by physicians and nurses during medical procedures,
including examinations and surgery, as well as tracking inventory
and ordering new equipment when needed.
Instrument and equipment decontamination and cleaning following
IFUs while having the ability to disassemble items before choosing
appropriate cleaning method.
Performs visual inspection of instruments and equipment prior to
appropriate assembly and packaging of instruments or equipment.
Performs appropriate sterilization of instrument and equipment
based on IFUs while inspecting and ensuring all external
indicators, filters and labels are appropriate.
Documents work performed utilizing instrument tracking
software/paper documentation as required.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive
judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be
able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate
Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED.

The pay rate for this role $19.67.
