Job Description:
Hugo Enterprises is seeking a Benefits Specialist to serve the
workforce of various closely held business and non-profit ventures,
including Hugo Specialty Foods, a distributor of premium underdog
food brands; the Jackson Fork Ranch, an upscale resort in western
Wyoming; Straight Arrow News, a newsroom that strives to deliver
content free from bias or agenda; Opportunity Education, an
educational foundation that empowers students worldwide with
growth-oriented learning programs from primary school into college
and career; Quest Forward Academy, with high schools located in
Omaha, NE and Santa Rosa, CA; The Cloisters on the Platte, a
world-class religious retreat center located between Omaha and
Lincoln, Nebraska; and other business and not-for-profit
ventures.
Primary Responsibilities of the Benefits Specialist:
--- Benefit plan coordination and maintenance.
--- Administrative duties and recordkeeping.
Benefit Plan Coordination and Maintenance
--- Coordinate with management on development and administration of
company benefits strategy.
--- Negotiate with third-party service providers and insurance
carriers in a timely fashion.
--- Assist employees with enrollment information, selections and
alternatives.
--- Monitor group retirement and health and welfare benefit plans
to ensure the plans are properly maintained and comply with
applicable rules, regulations, audit and IRS filing
requirements.
--- Liaise with employee and benefit providers to address and
resolve employee benefit issues and concerns.
Administrative Duties and Recordkeeping
--- Assist as needed with new hire processing including
eligibility-to-work validation, background checks, benefit plan
orientation and enrollment.
--- Implement and maintain integration of benefits with payroll
(currently Paychex suite of services) and benefits third party
administrators, troubleshoot issues related to benefits
integration.
--- Ensure compliance with Employer Shared Responsibility
obligations for variable hour workforce.
--- Lead annual benefit enrollment process, informing employees of
election options, deadlines and changes from prior year
programs.
--- Lead policy development and documentation.
--- Lead market research to establish competitive benefit practices
that help to recruit and retain superior staff.
--- Lead company health and safety programs; as applicable, monitor
and track OSHA-required data.
Desired Skills, Education and Expertise
--- Must be experienced in a wide-ranging, full functioning Human
Resource environment; Benefits Specialist will have a hands-on,
"get into the weeds" approach. This will require a high detail
orientation and commitment to meeting deadlines in an orderly
manner.
--- Proven success in administration of general HR duties including
specifically benefits administration.
--- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human
Resources, Business, Organization Development, or related
field.
--- Ability to communicate confidently and effectively, both in
speaking and in writing, with all levels in an organization.
--- Demonstrated ability to serve as a knowledgeable resource to
the executive management team that provides overall company
leadership and direction.
--- General knowledge of various employment laws and practices and
experience working with a corporate employment law attorney.
--- Specific experience in developing and rolling out a successful
health and welfare benefit plan a strong plus.
--- Specific experience administering retirement plan compliance
requirements a strong plus (e.g. routine plan communications,
internal plan audits, etc.)
--- Specific experience in overseeing third party administration of
health and welfare and retirement benefits a strong plus (e.g.
internal audit of benefits integration with payroll).
--- Specific experience overseeing third party administration of
COBRA benefits a plus.
--- Excellent organizational management skills.
--- A minimum of three years of progressive experience in Human
Resources responsibilities required, five years preferred.
Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience. Employee
