Job Summary:

Under close supervision, assists professional nursing and care providers in providing care to all patients with respect for their uniqueness. Collaborates with the RN and healthcare team. Assists with basic patient care and activities of daily living. Maintains unit specific documentation as required. Orders, maintains and utilizes supplies for the assigned unit. Demonstrates the equivalent skills, competencies and professional development of the Health Care Tech III (HCT III) as required by division.

The nursing apprentice adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patient safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute".

Upon passing the NCLEX and license verification, the nurse will advance as Graduate Nurse Resident and can function independently as a Registered Nurse as outlined in the job description.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Ability to ensure confidentiality of patient information by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment by not sharing information learned on the job, except when necessary in the performance of the job responsibilities or to improve a patient's care.

• Ability to ensure all duties, responsibilities and competencies are conducted in a manner that is effective and appropriate to patients/clients to who care/service is being provided.

• Demonstrates knowledge and applicability of the principles of growth and development over the life span, as well as demonstrating the ability to assess data reflecting the patient's status and interpreting appropriate cultural information of the patient(s) to whom care/ services is being delivered/provided.

• Ability to complete and maintain clinical competency standards.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. Must be on track to graduate within 6 months of start date or have graduated.

Experience:

• Health information management experience

Credentials:

  • Must successfully pass the NCLEX registered nurse exam within 6 months of start date or expiration of Temporary - Registered Nurse license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) from American Heart Association required.

Minimum: 25.67

Midpoint: 25.67
