The department's interdisciplinary, ecosystem research promotes collaborations among disciplines and across fields of expertise at CSU and throughout the world. As a soft-money research unit, this role is critical to ensure adequate funding to sustain its vital role in the research community both locally and across the globe. Position Summary The post-doctoral statistician will work as part of a team with other statisticians and subject-matter scientists from CSU and USDA to develop and evaluate imputation products combining data from existing USDA surveys and other datasets to represent historical land use and management in the United States. The statistician will work with the team to support assessments of greenhouse gas emissions using the imputed product with other supporting information. The statistician will also produce peer-reviewed manuscripts and reports of the methodology and results. Required Job Qualifications 1) Ph.D. in Statistics or quantitative environmental sciences 2) Experienceing machine learning methods and/or other statistical imputation approaches. Essential Duties Job Duty Category Statistical Analysis Duty/Responsibility Develop and evaluate imputation products combining data from existing USDA surveys and other datasets to represent historical land use and management in the United States. Develop a statistical design for the analysis that builds on previous efforts to develop imputation products for US land use and management. Evaluate the available data for developing the imputation dataset for land use and management. Develop code and implement the imputation analysis. Evaluate the results from the imputation analysis and repeat previous steps as needed. Assess uncertainty in the imputed datasets. Percentage Of Time 70 Essential Duties Job Duty Category Manuscript/Report/ Documentation Preparation Duty/Responsibility Produce peer-reviewed documentation and manuscripts of the methodology and results. Work with team members to develop outlines and draft text for peer-review manuscripts. Submit manuscripts to peer review journals and ress comments from reviewers. Percentage Of Time 10 Essential Duties Job Duty Category GHG Inventory Analysis Duty/Responsibility Assist team with estimation of GHG emissions using the imputation products and related data. Prepare/format datasets for estimating GHG emissions Assist with executing the GHG emission models. Evaluate the output from the GHG emission models. Quantify uncertainty in the GHG emission estimates. Percentage Of Time 15 Essential Duties Job Duty Category Communications and Reporting Duty/Responsibility Ensure communication among project scientists, staff and partners. Communicate with supervisor about ongoing tasks and next steps on a regular basis. Attend and participate in project meetings. Communicate with other scientific staff about project tasks and coordinate effort as needed with them. Communicate with project partners as needed to ensure they have an opportunity for input and that products are meeting the needs for their components of the project. Make project deliverables including data products, meta-data and reports in coordination with supervisor. Following these communications steps will ensure that all project participants and partners have input and will ultimately lead a more robust data product. Delivery of the data product is required by the sponsor under the terms of the contract.
