Overview
Summary:The Development Associate will be responsible for contributing to project development efforts to create shovel-ready solar and storage projects. The Associate will work closely with the Development Manager to secure land, apply for permits, and contract site diligence for a pipeline of 1-4 utility-scale solar and energy storage projects. The position requires frequent travel to project locations to meet with landowners, permitting officials, and local stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Land Acquisition: Oversee site identification & acquisition efforts, meet with landowners in person, negotiate lease and purchase agreements, and manage landowner relationships.
  • Permitting: Coordinate with Permitting Manager, consultants, and attorneys to prepare, review and submit permit applications and other filings. Attend public meetings.
  • Project Diligence: Work with the engineering team and outside consultants to facilitate system design and site studies (surveys, geotech studies, wetlands studies, and environmental studies) for a number of projects.
  • County & Local Affairs: Build positive stakeholder relationships with state & county officials, local residents, and industry groups to bolster support for project permitting efforts.
  • Origination: Support efforts to secure project offtake, including preparing and submitting bids for RFP/RFI.
  • Internal Coordination: Interface with Development Engineering, Legal, Policy, Project Finance, EPC, and executive team members to accurately define and mitigate project risks and keep projects on track and on budget.
  • Project Management: Contribute to project budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and cost control duties across projects, including creating and presenting project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Frequent travel to meet with customers and key stakeholders and as needed for project development. The primary focus region will be Virginia and may be expanded as the Associate grows.
  • Market research: read state laws, policy documents, and utility filings to identify opportunities. Engage with regulators and stakeholders to fully understand incentives or barriers to solar and storage development.

    Qualifications
    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
    • Understanding of energy industry fundamentals; Technical and power market knowledge a plus (e.g., familiarity with power markets, transmission and grid, policy and legislation, and regulatory issues).
    • Real estate development experience helpful, including zoning and permitting and land contract negotiationStrong relationship management skills & track record of success integrating feedback from multiple stakeholders.
    • Strong project management skills & able to flexibly manage work across multiple distinct projects.
    • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative, attention to detail, and accountability. -
    • Able to multi-task and work in a deadline-driven environment.
    • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. -
    • Interested in joining a dynamic, value-building environment and being part of a high-performing and collaborative team.
    • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite, particularly Excel, and PowerPoint

      Physical Requirements/Work Environment:Work is performed in an office environment, with frequent travel expected -30% of the time. Must be able to sit, stand,bend, twist and lift up to 20 pounds.
