Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin's vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit EarthAs part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists and engineers, you will develop and manage systems engineering processes, standards and tools for the New Shepard software and avionics system. You must have a passion for the development of safety critical and mission critical software systems and a strong capacity to work on complex and exciting new problems. This position requires close collaboration with software engineers, systems engineers, and Safety and Mission Assurance across multiple teams.We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain systems engineering products for software on New Shepard and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Work with system, software, and avionics engineers to identify and verify compliance of software with system requirements.
  • Evaluate and perform reviews of software artifacts such as Problem Reports, Design Descriptions, and Qualification results.
  • Evaluate compliance with software development assurance standards.
  • Participate in actively maintaining a healthy safety culture through evaluation and ownership of system safety products and processes
  • Act as the negotiator between multiple and sometimes conflicting interests in order to make sure the system as a whole is optimized, while ensuring internal and external stakeholders' needs are being represented
  • Ensure all aspects of the system are working across the product lifecycle, including current launch operations and future design increments of New Shepard Qualifications:
    • Minimum of a B.Sc. degree in Computer Sciences, Aerospace Engineering or related field
    • 8+ years engineering experience with software development
    • Experience interpreting and assessing compliance to software standards (e.g. RTCA DO-178, DO-278)
    • Direct experience with development, integration, test, and qualification of software
    • Knowledge of systems engineering practices and methodologies such as requirement definition, decomposition, verification, and validation
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
    • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our inclusive culture
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum Desired:
      • Software Development skills in C/C++, Python, Simulink, and Matlab
      • Experience in using PTC Windchill, Git, Subversion, JIRA, DOORS
      • 5+ years engineering experience in the aerospace industry
      • Strong fundamentals in system safety using tools such as Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA)
      • Basic project management skills including labor estimating, schedule management, and Agile/Scrum development environment
