Job Description:
Mammography Technologist - Women's Mobile Clinic (Job ID:
10235)Job SummaryAs one primary component of this job, and under
the direction of a radiologist, performs screening and diagnostic
mammograms at a technical level not requiring constant supervision.
Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail
application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment,
strong technical skills, and a commitment to patient safety are
considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals
assuming the position as a mammography technologist. Another
secondary component of this job involves assisting the radiologist
in performing interventional breast procedures and breast
ultrasound examinations in order to contribute to a diagnosis.
Responsibilities
1.Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms following
appropriate assessment by clinicians. 2.Performs breast ultrasound
procedures in a timely manner according to physicians' order,
established protocols, or specific radiologist direction.
3.Effectively interacts with Denver Health's PACS system through
compliance with data entry, image post-processing, image archiving
tasks, image quality assurance, and other related user interface
activities. 4.Assists radiologists during interventional
procedures, (breast biopsies, and needle localizations).Such
assistance may include procedures preparation, post-procedural
patient care to include, but not limited to, breast compression,
retrieval of ice, and delivery of biopsy specimen to laboratory.
5.Maintains records of examinations and other pertinent information
on patients within Epic. 6.Performs QC/QA processes daily on
digital equipment. Phantom image test must be performed weekly.
7.Assembles order requisition, patient history sheet, and
comparison films (when relevant) for radiologists' review within 30
minutes of completion of exam. 8.Performs duties related to the
management of pathology results that include: printing and copying
of pathology reports; verifying if patients are scheduled properly;
and entering of pathology results into the computer system. 9.Any
or all the following activities may be required each week as
directed by supervisor and/or radiologist(s): 10.Print written
pathology reports from previous week's patients' biopsies. 11.Refer
abnormal results to surgical breast clinic for an appointment.
12.Education patients of their scheduled procedures. 13.Meet with
patients to discuss biopsy results. 14.Assist with preparation for
breast conference. 15.Update the procedure book with pathology
results. 16.Check status of patients waiting for biopsies and
document. 17.Notify PCP about patient's status. 18.Check status of
patients needing additional views and document. 19.Enter pathology
results into Epic. 20.Notify care providers of patient's pathology
results. 21.Remind radiologist to addend his/her interpretation by
providing the radiologist a copy of the written pathology report.
22.Uses Epic to schedule breast diagnostic studies. 23.Assists in
the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and
performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when
performing general radiographic examinations. 24.Maintains a clean
and orderly working environment through wiping down examination
tables, changing linens, stocking supplies, and
washing/disinfecting general radiographic equipment. 25.Attends and
participates in departmental huddles, general intradepartmental
meetings, and Radiology's in-services. 26.Other duties as
assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1.Knowledge in how to operate
digital mammography equipment and related technology. 2.Competency
in the performance of screening/diagnostic mammograms as well as
interventional breast procedures. 3.Knowledge in how to operate
breast ultrasound equipment and related technology. 4.Knowledge of
how to address age-specific care needs of patients. 5.Effective
interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and
collaborations. 6.Competency in interpreting physician order
requests for screening/diagnostic breast examinations. 7.Ability to
exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment
settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances. 8.Ability
to consistently produce quality images related to the breast
region.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration 1.American Registry of
Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration and ARRT certification
in Radiography and Mammography required. 2.Advanced certification
in Breast Ultrasound Imaging through the ARRT required. Education
Completion of a course of study in Radiologic Technology
specializing in Mammography as approved by the American Registry of
Radiologic Technologists, required. Experience Typically 2 years of
experience in performing radiographic procedures. In addition, a
minimum of one year professional work experience in performing
Mammography studies.
Credentials Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) from American Heart
Association (Required) Registered Radiologic Mammography
Technologist with the American Registry of Radiological
Technologists (ARRT) Certification, required.
