Nestled in an inspiring natural setting, our nonprofit retreat center supports education leaders. What Sets Us Apart Unlike traditional hospitality environments, we are not open 365 days a year. We only host groups up to 60 people with a minimum two-night stay. This role involves collaborating with the kitchen team to create flavorful menus, maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and ensuring meals are prepared on time. The ideal candidate has a love for cooking, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a dynamic environment while respecting the peaceful retreat atmosphere. Key Responsibilities Meal Preparation: Prepare and cook meals for guests, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, following the retreat’s culinary standards. Ensure that all dishes are visually appealing, properly portioned, and taste exceptional. Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests with care and attention to detail. Menu Collaboration: Assist in planning seasonal and creative menus that align with the retreat’s themes and values. Incorporate fresh, locally sourced, and sustainable ingredients whenever possible. Suggest ideas for enhancing the dining experience through new dishes or presentations. Kitchen Operations: Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment in compliance with food safety regulations. Assist in inventory management by monitoring ingredient levels and reporting supply needs. Properly label, store, and rotate ingredients to minimize waste and ensure freshness. Teamwork and Leadership: Work collaboratively with the kitchen team, including other cooks, dishwashers, and servers, to ensure efficient operations. Provide guidance and mentorship to kitchen staff as needed, fostering a supportive work environment. Assist with training new staff on kitchen procedures and food preparation techniques. Special Events and Retreat Needs: Prepare meals or snacks for special events, workshops, or large groups as requested. Create unique dining experiences that reflect the retreat’s mission and enhance guest satisfaction. Assist with special events or large group meals as needed. Physical Demands Position requires frequent standing or walking during shifts up to 10 hours.? Must be able to stand and exert well-paced mobility for periods of up to four hours at a time, multiple times within a ten-hour shift. Must be able to stoop, bend and reach up. Frequent use of hands and arms with repetitive movements. Hazards may include, but are not limited to, slipping, tripping, broken glass, hot liquids and hot food. Must be able to?lift up?to 70 pounds frequently. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail. Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively. Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift items up to 70 lbs. A positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset. Must be able to see distances to focus on small?details and?have good use of peripheral vision.? Must be able to work in all extremes of cold to hot. Must be able to hear in loud environments and surrounding areas. Work Environment: Indoor kitchen setting, with exposure to heat, moisture, and cleaning chemicals. Exterior exposure to cold, snowy weather. Must be able to work at high elevation in natural terrain. Share small workspaces with associates, especially during busier times of service. Must be able to flex hours of availability when necessary. Hours may be extended or irregular to include early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays. Qualifications: Proven experience as a cook in a professional kitchen, with a focus on hospitality or wellness cuisine preferred. Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, including proper handling of dietary restrictions. Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, based on retreat schedules. A passion for cooking and a commitment to delivering high-quality meals.
