Denver's Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) is dedicated to advancing Denver's environmental and public health goals. DDPHE works collaboratively with city, state and community partners to conduct education, community engagement, and enforcement to promote healthy people, healthy pets, and a sustainable environment. DDPHE oversees a number of services related to public health and the environment and is comprised of seven divisions: the Executive Director's Office; Community Health; Public Health Inspections; Denver Animal Protection; the Office of Medical Examiner; Environmental Quality, and the Office of Sustainability. The Department's programs are funded from many sources, including the General Fund, Environmental Services Enterprise Fund, state grants, federal grants, private grants, contracts, and donations. Community & Behavioral Health promotes population health and health equity by developing, implementing, and evaluating sustainable, evidence-based public health policies, interventions, and systems. The Division conducts multiple types of health-related assessments; creates, implements and evaluates the City's Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP); and develops policies and initiatives aimed at improving the health of Denver residents while advancing equity at all levels. The Community and Behavioral Health Division seeks a Behavioral Health Supervisor to manage peer support staff, advance efforts to improve mental wellness among the Citizens in the City and County of Denver (CCD), and reduce harm associated with mental health conditions and substance use disorder. The position may work directly with vulnerable individuals using a therapeutic relationship in accordance with applicable standards of practice. The position works on an individual and systems level, in a variety of settings to ensure access to a continuum of care from prevention to treatment and recovery for vulnerable individuals and groups. The position uses theories and practices of counseling and therapeutic treatment, recovery and resiliency, public health theory and practice, and an understanding of local, state, and federal resources to affect individual and systems change. Specific job duties may include but are not limited to: Reviews, develops or modifies workplans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage Ensures staff prepares comprehensive records, reports, and documentation that complies with city, state and federal standards and requirements Conducts hiring interviews and selects candidates for job openings Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness and coaches staff or returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion Provide work instruction and assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments and encourages innovation Assigns clients to staff taking into consideration the skill sets of staff, meets with staff to provide supervision and discuss status of cases and clients' progress, provides technical guidance and direction, and support staff's personal recovery and work life-balance Resolves problems and mediates conflicts encountered during daily operations, determines appropriate solutions, and promotes teamwork Encourages regular communication and informs staff of relevant business issues that impact their organization Develops goals, documents performance, provides performance feedback and formally evaluates the work of the employee; provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Documents work performance. Assists staff to achieve performance standards and identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards Works with staff to engage vulnerable populations in community settings and provide a range of direct services, including, but not limited to education, counseling, coaching, support and referral/navigation to community resources. Provides staff with the tools they need to successfully accomplish this work Gathers information on the service delivery system, eligibility requirements, barriers to services and opportunities to inform program development and facilitate client's entrance to services Investigates and develops relationships, resources and funding to address service gaps across a continuum of services, including supportive services; works with stakeholders to resolve barriers, and promotes the creation of innovative and non-traditional models of care Explores and establishes programming and services to support behavioral health and ameliorate negative consequences of mental health conditions and substance use disorder on an individual and community level Develops practicum, internship and/or professional clinical/community placement experiences for students from universities; provides supervision and feedback on clinical placement students Other duties as assigned, consistent with programmatic objectives and agency mission, which may include one-on-one and/or group evidence-based behavioral health care in alternative work settingsAbout You Our ideal candidate will have: A Master's degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family counseling, Guidance and Counseling, or a directly related field. At least two years of experience as a supervisor Possession of an active license in good standing for clinical social worker, professional counselor, or marriage and family therapist Certified as an addiction counselor (Level II or III) Knowledge and experience implementing the following on an individual and system level: ethical and practice standards of peer support and successful experience supervising peer support workers; ten guiding principles of recovery; harm reduction principles; trauma informed care practices Previous experience teaching or supervising students in community or clinical placements We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications: Education requirement: Master's Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Counseling, Guidance and Counseling, or a related field.
