Job Description:

Incumbent will be a member of Pulmonary and Critical Care Section/Medical Service and will participate in patient care, teaching, research and administrative activities of the Section, as assigned. Specific anticipated responsibilities include: - Provide specialized pulmonary and critical care diagnosis and treatment to patients in the VA Eastern Colorado Health Care System. Attend in the Medical and Surgical ICU, on the inpatient consultation service, in the outpatient clinic, in the bronchoscopy suite, and on other clinical services covered by the Pulmonary and Critical Care Section. - Teach and mentor fellows, medical residents and medical students; participate in the educational activities of the Division of Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care Medicine, UC Denver. - Participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and other administrative duties as assigned. - Other duties as assigned by the Chief, Medicine Service Incumbent must meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions; consistently communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner; provide customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures; and handle conflict and problems in dealing with customers constructively and appropriately. Incumbent must protect printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy; protect the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion; follow applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement signed by the incumbent.

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below. Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.Physical Requirements: light carrying less than 15 pounds, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking 1 hour, standing 2 hours, mostly sitting, near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in other eye, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing (aid permitted), working with hands in water, working closely with others, protracted or irregular hours of work. Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). HCP are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations where patients receive care or who come into contact with VA patients as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and unpaid, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, students, researchers, volunteers, and trainees who work at these facilities.To apply for this position, you must provide a complete Application Package which includes:
