Job Description: Job Description As a Limited Scope Medical
Assistant you need to know how to:
- Greet and prepare patients for the health care provider while
maintaining a positive and caring attitude.
- Be attentive to patients needs, coordinate care, administer
care, and document appropriately.
- Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy
rights by observing HIPAA regulations.
- Obtain and record patient information; vital signs, height,
weight, allergies, current medications, medical history, and chief
complaint, etc.
- May be required to draw and collect blood samples and prepare
specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Per Provider request, may perform routine tests including but
not limited to EKGs, hearing and vision screens.
- Schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up as
appropriate to ensure completion of testing.
- Communicate test results to patients and establish plan of care
by phone or mail as directed by the Provider.
- Document patient plan(s) of care, tests and examination results
in the medical record as directed by the provider.
- Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain
equipment; stock patient exam rooms while maintaining cleanliness
and organization, and dispose of contaminated items according to
protocol.
- Administer ordered medications and/or vaccines via oral,
injection, topical, rectal, ophthalmic, and/or inhalant
administration.
- Perform clinical diagnostic x-rays and prepare completed
studies for provider review.
- Perform all required processor and equipment maintenance and
quality control processes.
- Prepare patients for radiologic procedures and protect
patients, self and other staff from radiation hazards.
- Take X-rays following established procedures for patient care
and safety, which involves setting up and operating radiographic
equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of
patients.
- Position patients and take X-ray of specific parts of the
patients body as requested by the physician.
- Process film and check X-ray for clarity of image; retake when
necessary.
- Distribute X-ray to appropriate medical staff. Minimum
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Current Limited Scope certificate and state license
- Maintain radiology educational
- Current BLS certification endorsed by the American Heart
Association or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire (with
prior approval)
- Minimum of three (3) months of previous experience within a
healthcare setting
- Successful completion of initial MA onboarding program within
90 days, annual skills fair, and in-services for site specific
tasks Preferred Qualifications
- Successful completion of an Accredited National Certification
Exam (ie: AAMA or AMT) for Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
- At least one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience Physical
Requirements: Additional Job Description Ongoing need for employee
to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate
monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions
with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require
employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand
spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and
accurately, particularly during emergency situations. Manual
dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate
equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent
computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing
needed information, medication preparation, etc. Expected to lift
and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also
bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically
includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and
obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes
pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy
items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of
equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.) May be expected to stand
in a stationary position for an extended period of time. For roles
requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires
sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other
