Job Description:The Tech performs various duties as a member of the surgical team to ensure a safe and successful operative procedure. This position functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and directly reports to Surgical Services management. It is expected that the Tech will support system wide and surgical operations initiatives and practices. Assemble , organize and complete case carts accordin g to doctors preference lists.Provide appropriate instrumentation , suture and all su pplies as requested and provide and maintain a sterile environment. May assist surgeon by passing instrume nts to surgeon during cases.Count sponges, needles, blades and instruments using proper techn ique and established policy.Assist in maintenance an d care of specimens and prepare for laboratory analysis. Handle specimens, implants, dressings, soiled instruments, contaminated materials and sharps in accordance with established policy and recom mended standards of practice.Assist with timely turnover of rooms, including clean up, replacement and restocking of supplies and equipment. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items.
