DepartmentSpeech, Lang, Hear, SciPosition SummaryThe Department of Speech, Language, Hearing Sciences (SLHS) invites applications for a half-time (.5 FTE), benefits-eligible clinical educator position with an expected workload of approximately 20-25 hours per week.The clinical educator will work with our director of clinical education and other clinical educators to provide graduate students in speech-language pathology (SLP) with meaningful experiences that represent the scope of SLP practice.The individual selected will help prepare a diverse student body to meet entry-level competencies for professional practice and must have a strong background in service delivery and culturally responsive care. As the only Hispanic-Serving Institution in Colorado offering a graduate program in speech-language pathology with an optional bilingual specialization, we are committed to providing an inclusive and accessible graduate program.While the nature of this position requires the employee to be on-site and have an outward presence for students, faculty, and staff, there is the ability to complete some work remotely.MSU Denver enrolls over 17,000 students, where nearly 60% are first generation and over 55% are students of color.   • Manage a caseload of clients across the lifespan who receive services at our on-campus speech-language clinic.
  • Support/supervise graduate students in providing evidence-based and culturally-responsive services at our on-campus clinic, partner sites and/or via teletherapy. The amount of supervision will vary commensurate with the knowledge, skills and experiences of the student clinicians and in line with professional responsibilities to the clients served.
  • Debrief and provide feedback (formative and summative) to student clinicians on clinical skills and professional behaviors.
  • Review graduate students' clinical documentation including session plans and session/SOAP notes as well as diagnostic reports, progress reports and treatment plans and provide timely and comprehensive feedback.
  • Oversee speech-language screenings (on-campus and in the greater Denver-metro area) as part of an inter-professional team.
  • Adhere to the roles and responsibilities of clinical educators, guidelines of professional practice in speech-language pathology and ASHA's Code of Ethics.
  • Teach graduate-level clinical education coursework, as needed.
  • Advise graduate students on professional roles/responsibilities and employment.Clinical Administration - 15%
    • Contribute to Knowledge and Skills Acquisition (KASA) Summary Forms and clinical competency evaluation forms for graduate students enrolled in the MSSLP program.
    • Work collaboratively with the director of clinical education to advance the department's accreditation efforts.
    • Participate in grant-related activities that support clinical programming.
    • Collaborate on new clinical initiatives.Other - 5%
      • Complete continuing education related to clinical education and maintenance of clinical certification.
      • Support other departmental initiatives as requested, consistent with the knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job.Required Qualifications
        • Master's degree in speech-language pathology
        • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in speech-language pathology from ASHA and at least 2 years of practice post certification
        • Hold credentials consistent with State of Colorado SLP licensure requirements or demonstrate eligibility for State of Colorado licensure
        • Completion of requirements for the 2020 ASHA certification standards for providing clinical instruction and supervision to individuals preparing for ASHA certification (and self-attestation)
        • Previous experience as a clinical supervisor/educator for graduate students in speech-language pathologyPreferred Qualifications
          • Knowledge and experience treating individuals with communication/swallowing disorders across the lifespan in a variety of settings
          • Documented history of service provision with underrepresented/marginalized communities
          • Experience as a bilingual (English/Spanish) service provider. Documented record of bilingual service provision
          • Participation in inter-professional education and practice
          • Strong collaboration skills
          • Ability to learn and use new technology efficiently
          • Use of electronic medical records
          • Familiarity with different supervision models
          • Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA+ students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners
          • Familiarity with clinical education software including CALIPSO and VALT
          • Familiarity with clinical education/certification requirements in the field of SLP
          • Board certification related to the profession or other related certification(s)
          • Clinical or research doctorate in Speech-Language Sciences or related fieldSalary RangeThe Pay Rate for this position is $45.00 per hour.This is a Part Time Temporary Hourly Position, meaning the employee can work 19 hours per week max, up to a year contract. This position does require enrollment in a PERA Retirement account.
