NURSE II - Wheat Ridge Regional CenterDepartment Information

This position will receive a short-staffing temporary pay differential of 8% from July 1st 2023 - June 30th 2024

This position is open to current Colorado residents only.

Organizational Focus:

We provide services to individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities living in Colorado. Admissions are for individuals with complex behavior and medical needs who may pose a risk to themselves or the community. We provide emergency treatment stabilization for people and provide support to the community service delivery system.

Overall function of the work unit:

This work unit exists to provide quality health care, personal hygiene maintenance and an active learning atmosphere in a safe and healthy environment for developmentally disabled and mentally ill individuals. This work unit provides 24-hour treatment services that are in compliance with State and Federal regulations.

Description of Job

Summary of the position:

This position exists to provide specialized nursing services that meet the health care needs of complex medical and psychiatrically challenged developmentally disabled individuals who live in ICF-IID group homes. Additional responsibilities include:

* providing supervision/guidance of health services to on-duty Licensed Psychiatric Technicians (LPT) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) as required by the LPN & LPN scope of practice.


* covering on-duty RN's directing workflow by establishing medication administration schedules, resolving nursing and health care issues, and providing oversight, training, consultation and guidance for health problems and nursing skills such as medication and treatment administration and delegated tasks such as blood sugar testing, trach care, oral suctioning and a multitude of other health-related tasks.


* developing and training medical protocols to be implemented by the Direct Care Providers including the LPT's and LPN's.


* follow the nursing process by performing thorough, comprehensive assessments, interpreting assessment results, formulating a plan of action, implementation and evaluation.


* work schedule includes after-hours direct nursing services and is sole health care provider and triage nurse for all health related problems of individuals served on his/her assigned caseload, in the absence of on-duty physicians or advance practice Medical Providers.


* Triage - receives calls and determines action for resident health issues, approves PRN medications and treatments and unscheduled health care services and responds to resident behavioral problems that may put the individual or others in harms way.


* Provides supervision of medication administration and the delivery of health care services provided by the Licensed Psychiatric Technicians and Licensed Practical Nurses who are working at the assigned areas.


* Enters prescriptions and Medical Provider (covering MD's and NP's) orders on the Medication Administration Records. Assigns the most appropriate schedule for each individual's medications and treatments through consideration of a multitude of factors



Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must possess a valid, active Registered Nurse License issued by the State of Colorado (Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) OR any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).

AND

Two (2) years of professional nursing experience

Substitutions:

Additional appropriate education will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

* 2 years of full time inpatient nursing experience.



Conditions of Employment:

* State of Colorado Resident
* Valid unrestricted Colorado Driver License.
* Must complete reference check
* Must be at least 18 years of age
* A pre-employment criminal background check will be conducted as part of the selection process as this position is deemed to have direct contact with vulnerable persons. Felony convictions, conviction of crimes of moral turpitude, or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from being considered for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges or convictions, it is your responsibility to provide the CDHS Background Unit with an official disposition of any charges.
* Must pass drug screen
* Influenza and other vaccines as required by the State of CO
* A Tuberculosis Test (TB) will be required upon hire
* Must be available to work any shift, any day and/or any area, to meet agency needs, including weekends and holidays
* Must demonstrate ability to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, etc, and perform physical interventions proficiently (pre-employment and continuously throughout employment)
* Must be available to work any shift, any day and/or any area, to meet agency needs
* Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on the application and provide an explanation why the prior termination or resignation should not disqualify the applicant from the current position. Absent extraordinary circumstances, prior disciplinary termination or resignation in lieu of termination will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
* Former employees of the Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) who were disciplinary terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose the information on your application and may not be eligible for employment at CDHS.
* Must travel to remote work sites and must utilize a state vehicle, if available.

If not, must utilize personal vehicle and submit for mileage reimbursement. Position is required to use a state vehicle to transport residents.
