Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Regional Medical Officer, and accountable to the Corporate Chief Medical Officer for strategic work, the Physician/Psychiatrist provides expert level psychiatric support to InnovAge, with responsibility for clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic procedures. This role is responsible for the development and implementation of treatment plans for older adult participants of InnovAge PACE in the Central Region. The successfully candidate will also provide direct and non-direct service as a Psychiatrist for the majority of the team, and the remaining non-clinical time will be required to support the InnovAge national behavioral health integration program in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer, and in collaboration with regional leaders across InnovAge.
Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities
Functional Category: Clinical Responsibility
Estimated Percent of time Spent – 55%

  • Diagnose, treat and help prevent behavioral, psychiatric and mental disorders for participants across InnovAge Colorado.
  • Review, evaluate and collaborate with other professionals to discuss treatment plans, progress and outcomes consistent with PACE program requirements.
  • Provide direct or non-direct (i.e. non-face-to-face) interaction with behavioral health care managers for participant monitoring
  • Prescribe, direct and administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications. Manage consultative caseloads in collaboration with treating primary care providers, nurse practitioners and behavioral case managers including required monitoring and documentation.
  • Participant in PACE interdisciplinary team meetings (IDT) and case conferences as required for care to participants

    Estimated Percent of time Spent – 15%

    • Clinical follow-up and management of participants as necessary to support care management of participants solely or in coordination with primary care and other interdisciplinary team members. Time is allowed for necessary participation in Center IDT across 6 Colorado locations, and collaboration with Center Operations, and Medical leadership to support participant planning and strategic support for the behavioral health needs.

      Estimated Percent of time Spent – 30%

      • Support the national behavioral health care management strategic initiative in collaboration with the medical and nursing leaders, and provider strategic support to the Chief Medical Officer with the psychiatrist input on this effort.
      • Support training needs as identified by the leadership where psychiatric physician input would be invaluable.
      • Provide input on current strategic effort, as well as input on new evidence-based treatment strategies to inform the programmatic strategies of BH and evidenced-based care delivery efforts.

        Travel Requirements

        • Travel required throughout Colorado
        • Possible overnight travel out of state

          Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

          • Require MD and Board Certification in psychiatry.
          • Licensed MD in Colorado
          • Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain CPR certification is required.

            Work Experience and Qualifications

            • Requires completion of an approved clinical program, MD and residency program, with a Doctoral degree.

              At least 3 years or more of experience working with geropsychiatric issues in a solution focused environment that provided brief psychotherapeutic techniques and psychotropic medications commonly used to treat behavioral conditions in the elderly.

              Experience and extensive knowledge of the chronic disease processes of the elderly and related psycho-social implications.

              Demonstrated experience in the provision of psychotherapeutic modalities such as group and family interventions required in addition to experience with conflict management and mediation.

              A minimum of one year experience working with the frail or elderly is required. Preference for prior PACE experience

              Understanding of new models of behavioral health care that leverages support of case managers with behavioral health experience

            • Leadership experience of at least 2 years including direct oversight of physicians, psychiatrist, nurse practitioners and other multi-disciplinary care team members.
