Job SummaryUnder minimal supervision, performs supervisory functions over professional nursing and support staff in an inpatient unit, specialty clinic, or treatment program in various patient care settings. Under general supervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patient safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute."The PEDUC Charge Nurse is responsible for department flow and oversite of frontline employees in a Level II Pediatric Trauma Emergency Department and Urgent Care. The Charge Nurse facilitates patient flow in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care settings.Is a resource for staff in regards to patient care and ensuring that all patients in the PEDUC receive outstanding care.In addition, the Charge Nurse is responsible for staffing the department 24/7, working with the hospital ACC and the adult ED to ensure that all patients receive the best care.The Charge Nurse is expected to work with Physician leadership, residents and students to maintain a good working relationship and a collegial departmentResponsibilitiesOversite of department/unit for assigned shift including adherence to policyDelegation of duties amongst nursing and support staffPreparation of daily staffing assignmentsOversite of patient care, admissions and dischargesOversite of daily operations and escalation of communicationsMentoringEvaluation and documentation of performance of nursing staffFacilitate patient flow Rounding for positive patient experienceOther duties as assigned per unit addendum

  • Checking Pediatric, NeoNatal Cor carts and ensuring that first floor is ready to receive all patients between NeoNate and above Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience
  • Previous Pediatric nursing experience in an Emergency/Urgent Care environment or Pediatric critical care area.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAdherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards.Strong understanding and display of the principals of customer service as it applies to patients, staff and the communityAbility to assist in identifying ways to promote quality patient-centric care and maintain Denver Health's high level of patient satisfaction. [Nursing Vision Statement]Ability to work effectively in a team matrix environment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and in a cross functional environment.Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary staff, charge nurses, clinical nurse educator(s), and Nursing Managers, providers,, executive leadership to provide care to patients with respect to their uniqueness using informed judgment, competence, individual qualifications, and collaboration with the health care team. Ability to demonstrate an understanding of assessment findings as they relate to the disease process and continuum of care.Supports compliance with national patient safety goals, accrediting agency standards, and quality initiatives.Evaluates practice in relation to professional standards, statues, regulations, hospital and departmental policies, standards of care, and regulatory Promotes quality care by redefining priorities for care based on evaluation of healthcare consumer/family response or changing condition.
    • Charge Nurse must have expertise and knowledge the rules and regulations governing Pediatric Emergency and Urgent Care departments.
    • Must have an understanding of Pediatric and Adult Emergency Department's needs and ability to work with Adult Emergency Department to care for Pediatric Patients that arrive in the Adult ED.
    • Ability to interact with multiple departments, specialties and disciplines to provide care and ensure that patients and families are receiving the most appropriate care for the situation. Education Bachelor's DegreeExperience Credentials Registered Nurse (Required) American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider Certification/CPR. Active Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Colorado or a participating compact state. National board certification is a preference and encouraged for staff nurses.*Specialty certifications as required or recommended per unit.
