Job Summary
Under minimal supervision, ensures all aspects of care for the
adult trauma patient are coordinated and meet standards of care a
set for the by the American College of surgeons (ACS) and the
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).
Functions as a clinical resource who may coordinate patient care,
transfers, discharges and follow-up for all patients in the trauma
program. Monitors and identifies quality assurance/improvement
issues and implements corrective measures to return the patient to
expected care pathways. Acts as a resource for nursing staff,
physicians, and other ancillary services. Acts as an educator and
participates in research and publication activities. Performs a
variety of functions to support the collection and coordination of
Trauma Performance Improvement information with emphasis on data
entry into a comprehensive computerized management system.
Completes data collection, abstraction and accurate data entry into
the trauma registry.
Responsibilities
1.Functions as an trauma subject matter expert who may coordinates
care of the trauma patient2.Assisting in the oversight and
monitoring of the delivery of trauma care3.Daily rounding on trauma
patients with the trauma team, SICU team, M&M and discharge
rounds4.Assist with development, implementation and ongoing
assessment of trauma protocols5.Ensures that transitions of care
from the ICU to acute care and acute care discharge follow all care
protocols and screen patient to ensure clinical appropriateness of
the planned transfer.6. Acts as a consultant by providing expertise
in trauma care to pre-hospital providers, nurses and other health
care professionals. 7. Assists in the development of nursing
standards of care for trauma patients in collaboration with
appropriate disciplines. 8.Coordinates and participates in trauma
outreach and education programs. 9.Provides timely patient
follow-up, communication and discharge summaries to referring
Trauma Nurse Managers/Coordinators and Prehospital Personnel. Acts
as an ambassador of Denver Health. 10.Coordinates the development,
implementation, and assessment of Quality Assurance/ Continuous
Quality Improvement related to trauma care. 11.Proactively conducts
audits, monitors data for trends, create plans for performance
improvement, identify method(s) to evaluate the PI plan, and see it
through to loop closure. Keeps accurate documentation of process,
loop closure and outcomes. 12.Completes data collection,
abstraction and accurate data entry into the trauma
registry13.Confidently navigates an electronic health record for
required data.14.Abstracts, analyzes and codes details medical
records for information.15.Collect and enter data points into the
trauma registry to support the Trauma Programs reporting
requirements, performance initiatives and research activities.
16.Keep current on the Trauma Data Dictionary, TQIP and NTDB
updates17.Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives
and processes18.Assists with preparation for State and ACS
verifications.19.Position coverage is 7 days a week and may include
overnight coverage.20.Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities1.Excellent interpersonal and
organizational skills.2.Knowledge of American College of Surgeon's
guidelines for the Adult Level I Trauma program.3.Knowledge of
CDPHE rules and regulations for Level I Trauma program.4.Ability to
manage multiple projects effectively and independently.5.Strong
skills in verbal communication, public speaking, presentation,
writing and editing required. 6.Ability to work independently and
be self-directed.7.Ability to work closely with the Clinical
Director of Trauma and Trauma Surgery physician
leadership.8.Ability to work closely with the Clinical Director of
Trauma.9.Ability to review and abstract medical
records.10.Familiarity with ICD10 diagnosis and procedure
coding.11.Completion of an Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) coding
class.Computers and Technology1.Proficient skills in EPIC,
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint or other web-based
systems required.2.Experience with trauma registry software
preferred.
Education
--- Bachelor's Degree (Required) Education and
Experience1.Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree
required.2.Three years professional nursing practice in
Trauma/General Surgery, Critical and/or Acute Care, Emergency Care.
3. Clinical expertise in the care of adult trauma patients
required. 4.Previous trauma nurse coordinator or trauma registrar
experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Registration1.Active Registered Nurse
(RN) License in the State of Colorado or a participating compact
state required.2.Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Provider
Certification/CPR required.3.Trauma Certified Registered Nurse
(TCRN) preferred.4.Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)
preferred.5.Certified Specialist Trauma Registries (CSTR)
preferred.6.Certified AIS specialist (CAISS) preferred. 6. BLS for
healthcare provider required through AHA or AMR.
