About this role
What will you be responsible for?
Works closely with the generative exploration teams to provide
timely access to the ground for exploration activities. Coordinates
implementation of S&ER policies and standards in generative
areas of exploration and Exploration Business Development. Serves
as a problem-solving practitioner and reports S&ER performance
in exploration to all relevant internal partners. Maintains,
improves, and implements the fit-for-purpose strategic approach and
governance documents to achieve social acceptance during
exploration and provides practical advice to explorers on how to
operationalize the approach in the field.

Here is a snapshot of what your day-to-day will look like:
Coordinates standardization and implementation of social and
environmental programs at generative exploration projects.
Ensures systems are in place to record and lead social and
environmental performance, including local content, complaints,
commitments, engagements, and donations.
Creates and coordinates S&ER performance monitoring and
reporting for generative exploration projects.
Builds and maintains a network of exploration S&ER
practitioners and industry groups.
Identifies potential strategic partnerships to improve S&ER
performance and transparency.
Works with exploration teams in the field to implement practical
programs that achieve compliance with regulations and Newmont
S&ER standards.
Lead all aspects of land access agreements and activities, partner
engagement planning, community investment initiatives, and
environmental management for exploration programs to ensure timely
social acceptance and land access.
Identifies S&ER risks for generative exploration projects,
supports the development of appropriate controls, and raises issues
to the broader S&ER team.
Provides guidance and training to exploration teams on how to
conduct stakeholder engagement and other community relations
activities.
Engages with Exploration Business Development to identify risks to
potential acquisitions and works with Joint Venture partners to
improve understanding of Newmont's expectations of S&ER
performance during exploration.
Coordinates cross-functionally to bring S&ER perspective to new
country entry, land access matters, and exploration strategy and
work plans.

Education:
The position requires a bachelor's degree in social science,
community development, environmental science, or geology. Master's
Degree preferred.
Experience:
5 years experience working in developing countries.
Validated management and understanding of community relations.
10 years of varied experience in mining or other extractive
industry, community development, land access, or environmental
management.
Experience in environmental management, permitting approvals, land
access agreements, and cultural heritage arrangements is highly
desirable.
Skills and Abilities:
Broad understanding of socio-economic and political issues in
developing and developed countries.
Analytical thinking: the ability to break down complex problems to
find workable solutions.
Strong cultural knowledge and awareness; adjusting behavior and
style to suit local requirements. Ability to assess and connect
with remote or undeveloped communities as a company ambassador.
Diplomacy: engaging with potential adversaries on contentious
issues while maintaining an ability to collaborate. Advocating for
the company in a respectful way.
Forming networks and forums for sharing knowledge, experience,
resources, and skills. Teaching and building social responsibility
capacity in less mature locations.
Relationship building and influence skills; ability to work across
lines of formal authority to get things done.
Spanish and/or French language proficiency is highly desirable.
Working conditions & location
Where you will be located!
The primary location for this position is Denver, CO but qualified
candidates who are willing to relocate to Denver are encouraged to
apply.
Some travel is required to generative exploration environments
where conditions will be primitive and harsh at times. This will
include fly camps and dormitory accommodations.
Generative exploration sites may be in areas with malaria or other
infectious diseases that will require preventive measures.

The salary range offered for this role is $116,960 to 138,890. The
salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in
Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be
based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The
salary offer will not be based on a candidate's salary history at
other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about
salary history, and candidates should not share such information
with Newmont.
This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary
annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded
a percentage of their salary based on the company's performance and
their own individual performance.
