Job Description:
The Executive Director provides leadership to the Center for Experience and Opportunity and student success initiatives (as appropriate); provides direction and oversight to the College's career development and experiential learning offices and programs and oversees the McDaniel Commitment, signature program for student development at McDaniel College.This position works closely with campus constituents, alumni and community members to support and expand the College's experiential learning and career success initiatives including community based-learning, internships, and campus employment. This position also oversees support to international educational experiences, such as January term travel trips as well as semester-long study abroad through both international providers and through our branch campus in Budapest, Hungary. It also oversees the staff support for post-graduate competitive scholarships and fellowships.This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President, Student Success and provides direct supervision of the CEO's staff.ResponsibilitiesProgram Oversight

  • Is a strategic partner in the development of mentorship opportunities for students across all four years in partnership with deans, chairs, the CEO staff and the alumni engagement office.
  • Builds and supports connections with the local community to encourage experiential learning opportunities such as community engagement and internships.
  • Supports CEO staff in the development of career-focused programming including job fairs, externships, graduate school presentations, and interview days.
  • -Supports CEO staff in the oversight of McDaniel's scholarship and fellowships pipeline via mentorship with students and outreach to faculty/staff.
  • Supports International Programs by encouraging, supporting, and leveraging short term and long-term study abroad experiences including critical support for the Budapest Campus.
  • -Oversees the continued implementation of key McDaniel Commitment programs like McDaniel Local, My Design, and My Career, including teaching modules within the programs by leveraging student-centered best practices.
  • Supports the implementation of the First Year Experience including orientation programming, peer leadership, and new student support initiatives
  • Contributes to student success initiatives, in collaboration with Academic Life and Campus Life departments.Supervisory Responsibilities
    • Set and supervise office objectives
      • Daily supervision of CEO office staff which includes the Associate Director of Career Development, Associate Director of Community Engagement, Associate Director of Student Experience and Opportunity, Associate Director of International and Off-Campus Programs, and the Assistant Director of Student Development
      • Oversee the annual development and delegation of office goals in alignment with the institution's overall strategic plan
      • Identify and lead involvement in professional development and teambuilding opportunities for CEO staff
      • Meet with departments across campus on a regular basis to ensure strategic support via the CEO
      • Monitor and set vision for strategic marketing of CEO programs to multiple constituents via the website, social media, on-campus advertising, and in-person meetings both on and off-campus.
        • Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred
        • 5-7 years of relevant experience
        • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to network with a diverse group of constituents
        • A high level of motivation for building new programs and expanding the College's capacity to support experiential learning initiatives
        • Availability to run evening and weekend programming
        • Good organization skills, team-orientation, flexibility

        • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and make decisions using independent judgment
        • A general comfort with technology-rich work environments
        • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Word or other tools.Working ConditionsWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely working in a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.Physical AbilitiesThe physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
          • Sitting for long periods of time. -
          • Some bending and stooping when working with files.
          • Limited lifting involved but not more than 10 pounds at a time.
