Renewables Compliance Director & Chief Compliance Officer - Energy Storage (BESS)

Locations: FULLY REMOTE (Anywhere in the USA)

This an opportunity to join an industry leading renewable energy venture with strong private equity backing that is focused on the development and execution of dynamic utility-scale energy storage projects. They are at the forefront of the industry, have accumulated over 8GW of projects in a relatively short period of time, and are currently in an accelerated expansion phase which includes the addition of a Director of Compliance .

The Director of Compliance will be the company's Chief Compliance Officer responsible for building out a first class scalable corporate and operational compliance program from scratch. This is a critical role for the organization that works directly with the company's General Counsel and Executive Team on special projects across as part of a holistic approach to compliance management and the creation of a compliance considerate culture.

It is a nationwide scope of operations that encompasses utility-scale renewables Corporate, Project Development, O&M, and Asset Management. The incumbent may eventually build a team but the initial goal is to independently lead compliance initiatives directly with the support of Outside Counsel and Consultants as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) develops and implements tactical plans for compliance management in line with annual operating goals (short-term & long term) set out by the Executive Team
  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) creates internal controls to quantify effectiveness of company compliance initiatives and make any necessary real-time adjustments
  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) acts as the key stakeholder with Outside Counsel and Legal firms to resolve compliance disputes
  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) lead NERC-CIP programs and drafts Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) work plans
  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) acts as the company's Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the areas of NERC and FERC specific compliance for project development and operations initiatives
  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) leads incident/accident investigations including root cause analysis, corrective action initiatives and devises company standards on non-compliance resolutions
  • The Renewables Compliance Director (Chief Compliance Officer) represents the company's interest with all major compliance and regulatory bodies ISO/RTOs

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • 10+ years of corporate compliance and operational NERC/FERC compliance for operations for renewable energy electric transmission systems; JD (Juris Doctor) / active Attorney license is a HUGE PLUS
    • Strong track record developing compliance programs that deal with NERC, FERC, Public Utility Commissions (PUCs) and other Reliability organization standards, operating policies, procedures, and guidelines
    • Operational Compliance utility / renewable energy experience in some or all of the following: Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), NERC Standards, FERC standards, ISO / RTO Compliance, and Compliance Siting Protocols
    • Well versed in compliance resolution and root cause analysis for compliance break downs
    • Prefer experience in working with ERCOT or other similarly structured Independent System Operator (ISO) and Regional Entity (RE)
    • Experience with and knowledge of current ISO/RTO standards, operating policies, procedures, and guidelines preferred
    • Legal and operational compliance experience dealing with utility-scale solar, wind, battery storage or energy storage projects
    • An understanding of national energy power markets - PJM, ERCOT, SPP, MISO, NYISO, ISO-NE, and CAISO is beneficial but NOT required
