Director, Global Commercial Analytics - Market Research Lead Atara Biotherapeutics is a pioneer in T-cell immunotherapy leveraging its novel allogeneic EBV T-cell platform to develop transformative therapies for patients with severe diseases including solid tumors, hematologic cancers and autoimmune disease. With our lead program in Phase 3 clinical development, Atara is the most advanced allogeneic T-cell immunotherapy company and intends to rapidly deliver off-the-shelf treatments to patients with high unmet medical need. Atara is applying its platform to create a robust pipeline including: tab-cel-- (tabelecleucel) in Ph3 development for Epstein-Barr virus-driven post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (EBV+ PTLD); ATA188, a T-cell immunotherapy targeting EBV antigens as a potential treatment for multiple sclerosis; and multiple next-generation chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) immunotherapies for both solid tumors and hematologic malignancies. Our investigational off-the-shelf T-Cells are intended for rapid delivery from inventory to patients. The Director, Global Commercial Analytics - Market Research Lead will be responsible for leading market insight generation activities, synthesizing output and effectively communicating key insights in a timely manner to broad cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership. This individual will be responsible for leading market research related to Atara's full portfolio of allogeneic cell therapies over the course of their development and commercialization in addition to providing critically important insights to support senior leadership decision-making regarding asset commercialization, portfolio prioritization, and business development opportunities. Key pipeline portfolio market research needs include supporting PTLD launch-critical tab-cel-- branding activities, refining the assessment of opportunity associated with tab-cel-- in PTLD and in other potential indications, updating our understanding of the market opportunity for Atara's earlier programs including ATA-188 in multiple sclerosis and ATA-3219 in B-cell malignancies, and generating ad-hoc insights to support ongoing business development activity. As we continue to build our Global Commercial Analytics function, there is potential for this role to have direct reports. Reports to:--VP, Commercial Planning Location:--California-based; office location will be either South San Francisco, CA or Thousand Oaks, CA. Remote locations will be considered but are not preferred. Responsibilities

  • Works with brand/program leads to identify and prioritize key business questions that require analysis, and appropriate types of primary and/or secondary research
  • Develops market research and analytical plans and budget to answer key questions
  • Implements market research plans / activities to help identify and synthesize key insights into market dynamics and indications of interest (e.g. patients, health care professionals and other customers, marketplace, pricing, competitors and business drivers) and anticipated market evolution
  • Designs and manages market research studies, including project objective development, research approach, vendor selection and oversight should a vendor be required, monitoring of data collection, data analysis, and interpretation
  • Synthesizes key insights into relevant and compelling presentations and effectively communicates data-driven, unique and compelling insights to key cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Supports global portfolio planning by providing insights that enable selection of product candidates as well as development and commercialization strategies for pipeline products
  • Working with Forecasting Lead, contributes to design and execution of commercial assessments that include secondary and primary research to generate insights and inform forecast updates or development
  • Contributes, as required, to other US and Global Commercial Analytics initiatives / deliverables (e.g. secondary data analysis, competitive intelligence, forecasting)
  • Drives the use of the leading tools and techniques in market research
  • Responds flexibly and adaptively to the needs of the organization through a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
  • Potentially leads a team of one or more direct reports
  • Provides expert advice as needed to other functions that may be engaging in insights-directed activities, with aim of maximizing effectiveness Travel:--Role does not currently require any travel due to COVID-19 considerations; minimal future travel may be required (up to 5%). Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred (MBA, MS, PhD, PharmD)
    • 10+ years life sciences industry and/or related consulting experience, including 4+ years in business insights and analytics
    • In-depth experience designing and conducting quantitative and qualitative primary and secondary market research, ideally with knowledge and experience in Oncology, MS and / or Rare Diseases. A majority of experience should be in US markets with global experience, a plus
    • Deep, proven competency in market research with full market research skillset and deep knowledge of basic and advance research techniques and study design
    • Strong strategic thinker who understands the critical role of insights, including market research, in underpinning product and business strategy in support of both product launch and early stages of development
    • Ability to operate in ambiguous situations and determine focused objectives and a clear path forward in the face of open questions
    • Strong data analytical and interpretive skills with an ability to meaningfully portray and effectively communicate complex quantitative data in an easy-to-understand format
    • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, influence others, focus, resolve conflict and drive consensus among individuals from a variety of disciplines with diverse personalities and skill sets
    • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Experience working across commercial functions and with US and global brand teams required. Experience working with clinical development and medical affairs, preferred
    • Strong communication and presentation skills with an ability to efficiently and productively communicate both orally and in writing both to peers and senior management required
    • Excellent project management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines in an environment of competing and changing priorities
    • Must have strong task management skills to include: planning, prioritization, objective setting, and meeting management and plan execution
    • Strong scientific acumen and scientific literacy
    • Other commercial analytics experience, including but not limited to forecasting, sales operations & analytics, market access analytics, competitive intelligence preferred
    • Strong MS, Excel and Powerpoint, graphics experience required Personal Qualifications
