This engineering function provides engineering design, systems integration, subcontract management, product technical support and anomaly resolution for the Propulsion fluids systems (cryogenic, non-cryogenic, hydraulics and pneumatics) and/or Ordnance Component/System design. This function develops sub-system and component designs and requirements to satisfy overall propulsion systems requirements. The position requires mechanical design capability as well as understanding dynamic, structural and fluids analysis concepts. Must have the capability to perform system integration and perform system level trade studies to optimize designs for manufacturing, producibility and performance. Generation of engineering drawings or changes as well as assembly and testing requirements is part of the job function. Provides direct support to the suppliers, the factory and the launch site to ensure production schedules are met, anomalies are resolved and operations are streamlined to improve efficiency. When anomalies occur, provides causal analysis that leads to effective resolution and corrective actions that prevent recurrence. Review the as-built product (hardware and associated software) and product test data to certify that the final product configuration and performance meets requirements and is ready for test and/or flight. Develops design improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improve vehicle performance.

External Additional Requirements

* Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering Discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of relevant job experience

External Preferred Qualifications

* Excellent communication skills (oral and written)

* Familiarity with fluids and thermodynamics design and analysis

* Familiarity with structural design and dynamics analysis

* Proficient with mechanical design utilizing NX, CREO, Team Center

* Proficient with Microsoft Office platform tools and Project integrations skills

Functional Job Description

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is typical of most office environments with telephones, personal interruptions, and background noises.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and in writing and use interpersonal skills. The employee is regularly required to prioritize, multitask, analyze, interpret, coordinate, compile, evaluate, synthesize, compute, problem solve, concentrate, and think critically. The employee is occasionally required to copy, instruct, and negotiate.

Judgment and Decision-Making: Work is regularly assigned by self, supervisor, and departmental staff. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to exercise prudent judgment, decision making, and analytical skills to determine manner and operational steps necessary to properly handle inquiries and perform daily tasks within professional standards. Decision making is guided by ULA policies and procedures.
