This position will help directly support the Department of Energy's (DOE) office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) marine energy foundational R&D portfolio. Information on the Foundational R&D portfolio can be found in the WPTO Multiyear Program Plan (MYPP) found here (https://www.energy.gov/sites/default/files/2022-03/wpto-mypp-2022-1.pdf), beginning on page 93. This position involves activities, including, but not limited to, Funding Opportunity Announcements, project management, and technical support for competitively selected cooperative agreements. Support involves daily interactions with internal parties such as legal, contracting, NEPA, and communications, as well as external communication with project recipients in academia, private industry, and National Laboratories.
Position Responsibilities:

  Review Marine Energy research projects to date in controls, codesign, and numerical modeling to Technical and engineering analysis:
  
  
• 
  Be a merit reviewer evaluating engineering and programmatic strengths and weaknesses.
  
  
• 
  Support design reviews and go no go reviews of funded R&D projects.
  
  
• 
  Review and evaluate deliverables from R&D projects the WPTO has funded.
  
  
• 
  Manage R&D projects, including awards with industry, the national labs, and academia.
  
  
• 
  Support marine energy strategy development.
  
  
• 
  Support writing technical descriptions for funding opportunity topic area.
  
  
• 
  Communicating complex technical concepts to both highly technical audiences as well as general management audiences.
  
  
  Qualifications
  Required Qualifications:
  
  • 
    
  • 
    Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Ocean Engineering
    
    
  • 
    10 plus years of industry experience applying electrical or mechanical, or ocean engineering
    
    
  • 
    Hands-on engineering R&D experience
    
    
  • 
    Hands-on R&D testing experience
    
    
  • 
    Successful drug screening.
    
    
    Desired Qualifications:
    
    • 
      
    • 
      Experience in commercializing an engineering product or technology.
      
      
    • 
      Experience in:
      
      
    • 
      electrical generation.
      
      
    • 
      ocean and marine systems.
      
      
    • 
      renewable energy generation.
      
      
    • 
      Wave tank testing.
      
      
    • 
      Coursework or experience in ocean wave mechanics.
      
      
    • 
      Familiarity with PRIMRE.org contents and some of the software in the PRIMRE.org code cataloghttps://openei.org/wiki/PRIMRE/Code_Catalog .
      
      
    • 
      Experience conducting cost estimation, cost realism evaluation and generating cost rough order of magnitudes (ROMs).
      
      
      Salary Range:$80-110,000
