Overview

South Platte Renew (SPR) is the 3rd largest water resource recovery facility (WRRF) in Colorado and cleans nearly 20 million gallons of wastewater a day. SPR is publicly owned by the Cities of Littleton and Englewood and serves approximately 300,000 residents in Littleton, Englewood and 19 other connecting communities. The Engineering Division of SPR is recruiting an engineer intern for the summer of 2022 to help perform a variety of wastewater engineering duties related to operating a WRRF. As SPR renews water for Colorado's future, the SPR Engineering Division plans, designs, and constructs treatment infrastructure, manages all assets, optimizes processes, and maintains all electrical instrumentation and controls.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary duty of this position will be to support capital improvement projects, process optimization efforts, and various SPR initiatives including but not limited to asset management, sustainability, and piloting and research. Other duties will be assigned based on SPR needs and the successful candidate's interest in a particular aspect of the Engineering division's duties. Work is to be performed at the SPR facility in Englewood, CO.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering analysis, prepares technical reports and provides comments related to engineering activities.
  • Performs field work and data collection.
  • Participates in preparation of cost estimates, specifications and bid evaluations.
  • Prepares engineering calculations and modeling.
  • Prepares technical reports; meets and coordinates with engineering department, operations staff, consultants, contractors, government agencies, and utilities companies.
  • Monitors construction progress and expenditures.
  • Inspects construction sites.
  • Provides input on change orders.
  • Utilizes various software to produce maps, drawings, and graphics. Operates accessory equipment, scanners and plotters.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned. Other Duties & Responsibilities

    PREPARATION AND TRAINING

    Education:Currently enrolled and working toward a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a directly related field.

    Work Experience: Experience performing engineering analysis preferred.

    Required Driver's License:Valid Colorado driver's license and a clear or acceptable MVR.

    An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

    Knowledge

    Working knowledge of:
    • General engineering principles
    • Wastewater treatment processes Skills and Abilities

      Computer Skills - Basic computer knowledge including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, ArcGIS and AutoCAD.

      Communication - Strong communications skills, verbally and writing, needed to maintain effective working relationships with contractors, consultants, and plant staff. Ability to work independently with broad direction and limited supervision.

      Analytical - Ability to interpret and use information from engineering reports, plans, specifications, regulations, and technical documentation.

      General Engineering - Basic knowledge of engineering principles, practices, methods and standards.

      Mathematical - Advanced skills needed to perform engineering calculations.

      WORKING CONDITIONS
      • Work is to be performed onsite at the South Platte Renew facility.
      • Work is performed primarily in an office setting; however, may be performed on construction sites where there may be exposure to dust, noise, traffic and moving construction equipment; and/or at a wastewater treatment facility where noise, irritants, dust, dirt, bacteria, hazardous chemicals/air/materials and fumes are present.
      • Works indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and over all types of terrain. May be exposed to risks typically associated with working around water, chemicals, electricity and other man-made and natural hazards.
      • Full range of body movements including stooping, twisting, kneeling, bending, leaning, reaching, climbing (heights), stretching and working in awkward positions. May stand for extended periods of time. Occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.).
      • Vision is needed for reading, computer input, recording, and interpreting information such as blueprints and plans; speech and hearing are used to communicate with other employees over the telephone, radio and in person. Work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours daily).

        HOURLY RATE

        $16.80 - $25.20/hour
