The Charter Technical Engineering Center (CTEC) facilities is
located in Englewood, CO and oversees the design and architecture
of Charter's multi-billion dollar network infrastructure. We
investigate, select, develop, and integrate technologies and
solutions that meet the needs of the company for short, medium and
long term initiatives. This includes the delivery of the technology
plan and future architecture for Voice, Video, Data, Optical,
Commercial, Cloud, CPE, Network and Access.
Assists with the Hardware and Firmware certification of Customer
Premise Equipment that will be used for Charter deployment. Assist
with root cause analysis for issues found within CPE and transport
layer devices. Must be able to review Technical requirements and
transpose them into test cases. Design and establishes protocol
compatibility standards, develops and implements network
enhancements and makes recommendations for improvement. Responsible
for implementation of network architecture and designs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Work with engineering team to review firmware requirements and
Work with other team members and engineering groups to identify
hardware and software testing requirements
Participate in weekly bug classification and prioritization
Participate in test plan creation
Establish test network environments as documented in test plans
Perform Proof of Concept testing in multiple environments
Document results and review with designated teams or vendors as
Work with vendor and Charter engineers to resolve issues discovered
during testing; develop and document workarounds where possible,
and assist operations team with implementation and escalations as
Participate in Operational handoff review activities
Evaluates new products, performs network problem resolution.
Works on one or more projects as a project team member,
occasionally as a project team lead.
Accomplish the above tasks within allotted project timelines
Other duties as required.
Candidates should have at least 2 years of hands-on network
engineering experience, preferably with a cable Multiple System
Operator (MSO) or Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Experience with test methodology and tools are required.
Experience with CPE and/or CMTS is required.
Candidates must have a thorough understanding of DOCSIS and
provisioning, including TR069.
Experience with IP routing, IP multicast, streaming video,
wireless, Voice over IP (VoIP), and/or home networking is
Experience with automation, databases, scripting, and system
administration is a plus.
Candidates must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication

Ability to work in a team environment
Proficient knowledge of related industry specifications and
standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.),
Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies
Proficient knowledge in network design, network architecture,
protocols and network topology
Proficient knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to
support the current operations.
Proficient knowledge of basic network devices and basic network
Proficient knowledge of network designing software, such as
Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and
ability to learn new technology quickly
Knowledge of Microsoft Office
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or
related field or equivalent work experience
