There are currently over 550 students in SMTD, with 425 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in music degree programs.The University Center for the Arts is a nationally recognized state-of the art 350,000 square foot facility, that includes a 550-seat concert hall, a 275-seat organ and chamber music recital hall, a 320-seat thrust theatre, a 100-seat black box theatre, a 200-seat dance theatre, dedicated rehearsal, production and research spaces, along with classrooms, labs and practice rooms.Colorado State University (CSU) is a land grant institution with a student enrollment of approximately 30,000 students in over 150 programs, and a faculty numbering 1,700. This is a tenure-track, nine-month appointment, beginning August 16, 2019. Primary responsibilities will be to teach, recruit, and maintain an undergraduate and graduate trombone studio. The successful candidate will be expected to continue an active performing career, both outside of the university and within the School of Music, Theatre and Dance. Additional teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on the candidate?s training and/or experience in an additional area of music such as brass methods, jazz studies, music theory, music history/appreciation, or music education. Appropriate university service is expected. Conditions of EmploymentPre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires) Required Job Qualifications ? Doctorate in trombone performance (in hand no later than August 16, 2019) or master?s degree in trombone performance with a minimum 10 years significant experience e.g. major symphony orchestra, premier military band? Effective written communication skills? Evidence of successful college teaching Preferred Job Qualifications ? Completed doctorate preferred? Significant performance experience preferred ? Preference will be given to those candidates with at least three years of successful and documented college teaching experience in applied trombone.? Demonstrated ability to recruit and maintain appropriate numbers of quality students within the trombone studio? Committed to the traditional Western musical canon, while also demonstrating knowledge of or experience with music of diverse cultures? This person will also be able to build relationships with colleagues and secondary music educators in the state of Colorado and demonstrate experience working with underrepresented populations and/or diversity initiatives.? Semi-finalist candidates may be requested to send teaching videos of two students (one beginning/intermediate and one advanced) with each lesson lasting 10 minutes.
