Job Description:
The Senior Executive Director will directly oversee
association-wide aquatics programming and operations. Job
Description Under the direction of the Vice President of
Operations, the Senior Executive Director will directly oversee
association-wide aquatics programming and operations and day-to-day
operations at assigned branch(s) ensuring that the quality of all
programs and offerings related to swim lessons, lifeguarding and
safety are meeting or exceeding industry standards. In addition,
the Senior Executive Director will play an association-wide
leadership role in risk management. Working closely with senior
leadership, this role will oversee risk management strategy,
ensuring compliance with policies and laws and foster a culture of
safety and well-being. The Senior Executive Director leads and
develops staff, fosters a culture of collaboration and excellence,
and ensures programs meet industry standards and community needs.
Responsible for operational excellence, financial stewardship, and
program quality, the Senior Executive Director ensures effective
use of resources, safe and welcoming environments, and measurable
outcomes. This role supports the growth, sustainability, and
community impact of the YMCA. Qualifications Bachelors degree in
human services, social services, business or equivalent. Leadership
experience in aquatics operations and programming, including swim
lessons, lifeguarding, aquatic fitness, and safety initiatives;
multi-site or association-level experience strongly preferred.
Leadership experience in risk management including the
identification, mitigation, monitoring and reporting around
organizational risk management. Five or more years of management
experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.
Knowledge and experience in all aspects of operations, including
staff supervision and development, membership practices, program
development and implementation, volunteerism, facility and property
management and financial practices. Experience in management and
development of volunteer involvement; ability to recruit top
community leaders. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups
of people from all social and economic segments of the community,
track record of building authentic, constructive relationships with
others. YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred. CPO
certification within 30 days of hire. Lifeguard Trainer certified
within 60 days of hire. Current CPR/First Aid/O2 certification.
Essential Functions Provides leadership and supervision of assigned
branch and program staff; recruit, train, develop, and evaluate
employees and volunteers. Creates a collaborative, high-performing
culture that models YMCA values and relationship building.
Develops, implements, and oversees high-quality, mission-driven
programs to meet YMCA goals community needs. Fosters a climate of
innovation to develop member-focused programs in all departments to
support the Y mission, goals, and strategies. Ensures consistent
program evaluation, quality improvement, and alignment with YMCA
standards. Ensures organizational adherence to industry risk
management best practices. Manages organizational incident/accident
reporting system. Represents and promotes the YMCA within the
community and builds strong relationships and partnerships with
community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, etc.
Develops, manages, and monitors operating budgets; ensure fiscal
responsibility and achievement of revenue goals. Oversee
facilities, equipment, and safety standards to ensure high-quality,
well-maintained environments. Manage resources efficiently to
support sustainable operations and program growth. Creates
experiences that promote member connection, retention, and
satisfaction. Responds promptly to member feedback, concerns, and
inquiries. Supports marketing and communication efforts to promote
programs, services, and community impact. Assists in outreach
initiatives that strengthen visibility and participation. Ensures
adherence to all YMCA policies, safety regulations, and best
practices. Monitors program effectiveness, track outcomes, and
implement continuous improvements. Leads assigned YMCA fundraising
campaigns and events. Follows YMCA policies and procedures,
including those related to medical and disciplinary situations,
child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Completes additional
duties assigned in support of the YMCA mission.
