-- POSITION SUMMARY: The Manager of Gas Marketing is responsible for providing overall direction, planning, and coordination of all facets of MPLX natural gas gathering/processing trading and scheduling and ethane logistical activities. The Manager oversees wellhead & pipeline scheduling to ensure accurate and complete accounting of production and deliveries to downstream pipelines. The Manager fosters and provides premiere customer services. The Manager develops reporting tools and data for senior management reporting. The Manager is also responsible to support, encourage and develop members of the Gas Marketing and Scheduling team of 12-15 (4 direct reports) to foster a work environment consistent with the principles of the company. ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operational Management. Plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements. Direct, through subordinates, activities to ensure proper commodity movement and minimize shipper imbalances on gas gathering systems and OBA imbalances on gas interstate pipelines.
  • Oversee Monthly Close. Ensure all gas sales and purchases are accurately accounted for and systems are updated and closed in a timely manner.
  • Mid- and Back-Office Coordination. Coordinate activities with mid- and back-office support groups to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance of Marketing transactions. Adhere to all Company risk criteria and policies. Responsible for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance requirements as it relates to Gas Marketing.
  • Sales and Marketing. Responsible for executing gas purchase and sales transactions to ensure system balances and gas purchase agreements are serviced. Ensure compliance with appropriate Credit and Risk policies in conjunction with this activity. Manage the establishment of trading contracts to ensure enough counter parties are in place to achieve trading objectives. Serve as point person for all external marketing and trading functions.
  • Customer Services. Responsible for customer responsive services and strategies addressing customer and company needs and requirements. Understand unique needs of each customer and the industry segment the company is serving for that customer whether it be gathering, processing, logistical or other services. Ensure compliance with applicable customer Gathering and Processing or other associated agreements with regards to scheduling, balancing, or logistical activity.
  • Provide Corporate Wide Support. Work closely and effectively with subordinate staff, marketers, board operators and plant foreman, regional managers, accountants, contract administrators, measurement managers, business development, contracting, internal audit, risk management, credit, producers, shippers and interstate pipeline representatives. Assist Business Development in analysis of new or existing business opportunities and gas marketing strategies. Review and provide feedback to legal on new and amended contracts.
  • Budget and Reporting. Responsible for setting and maintaining G&A and operational expenses budget for applicable area of responsibility. Review and code all invoices, as they pertain to the area of responsibility. Provide measurement and results reporting for management as required.
  • Manage System Balancing. Work with subordinate staff to ensure that they retrieve, compile, input, and processes commodity movements daily into excel spreadsheets and Gas Scheduling systems while ensuring accurate reporting of information to internal and external customers.
  • Manage & Mentor Employees. Provide training, guidance and tools to employees to ensure successful outcomes. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Minimum 7 years' experience in gas scheduling with significant exposure to trading natural gas. Extensive knowledge of industry personnel, demand, supply and transportation infrastructure strongly desired.
    • Must have knowledge of natural gas markets related to upstream, midstream and downstream activity, including interstate pipelines.
    • Bachelor's degree strongly desired but equivalent experience will be considered.
    • Candidate should be self-motivated with proven ability to independently accomplish objectives.
    • Must be willing to travel to industry events, customer visits, employee locations, and operations. Travel expected to be 10-20% annually. Team members are in Denver, Tulsa and Salt Lake City. Role can be in any of those cities with travel to increase if not in Denver.
